Get Back on the Road: How Riders for Health Intends to Use Computer Vision to Digitize Health Forms

Riders wanted to explore ways to ease their couriers’ burdens while speeding up the process of digitizing the data from handwritten forms – ideally in near-real-time! To address this challenge, DataKindⓇ developed “ROCR”: a prototype optical character recognition assisted form-capture tool that extracts and predicts key handwritten fields in the standard sample-transport forms used by Riders’ operations in Nigeria – and records them in a digital logbook.

Housing insecurity is a looming crisis in the United States: nearly 5 million Americans lose their homes through eviction and foreclosure.  The onslaught of COVID-19 and subsequent economic depression is leaving many without a sustainable plan to cover rent or mortgages. Though its ultimate impact will take years to clearly understand, we know that the loss of property and forced displacements are intensely traumatic financially, physically, and emotionally.
