Nelsa comes to DataKind with over ten years of experience in Human Resources, mainly in the nonprofit sector. With a strong passion for equity and inclusion, Nelsa will ensure the well-being and productivity of the growing DataKind team. She’ll also manage our day-to-day people operations, combining deep people orientation and a dedication in working across lines of difference. Nelsa’s been leading hiring and onboarding for DataKind as a consultant since January, and we’re excited to have her full-time in this broader role.

What were you up to before DataKind?
Most recently, I was the Manager of Human Resources and Administration at a nonprofit called Affiliates Risk Management Services. There, I managed all areas of HR and oversaw administration. I also launched a consulting business that provides HR services to nonprofits, start-ups, and small businesses with an equity and inclusion lens. I’ve spent the majority of my career working with mission-driven organizations, so continuing my work at DataKind is truly an honor.
Why are you excited to join DataKind?
I enjoy working with mission-driven organizations, especially if the mission is one I believe in. DataKind is just that! I admire the work DataKind does and the values it holds. In addition, the people who work at DataKind are absolutely the best. It feels like family, and I look forward to working alongside such amazing and passionate people.
What do you like to do in your free time?
I love traveling, hiking, and spending time with my loved ones. So far, I’ve traveled to 26 U.S. states and 25 countries. Looking forward to increasing those numbers now that COVID-19 restrictions are slowly lifting.
