NYC Open Data Week (New York, NY) – March 3-10
A week-long celebration to raise awareness about New York City’s Open Data. Promoted by the City of New York’s Open Data team, BetaNYC, and NYC’s civic tech community, the week will offer more than 35 events, workshops, panels and exhibits, presented across the city, exploring how the City’s open data is being used in innovative ways and encouraging a wider knowledge of New York City’s open datasets.

Center for Technology and Society Belfer Fellowship – Application Deadline, March 1
The Center for Technology and Society (CTS), part of the Anti-Defamation League, was founded in 2017 to ensure justice and fair treatment for all in the digital age. As part of a 104 year-old civil rights organization, CTS draws from over a century of fighting anti-Semitism and bigotry of all kinds. Applications are now open for the inaugural Belfer Fellowships at CTS. The Belfer Fellows will be crucial members of the CTS team and will be drawn from areas like the tech community, academia, and media to push innovation, research, and knowledge development. They will embark on projects that align with CTS’s mission, like promoting cyberhate awareness and digital citizenship, and will work with CTS to leverage the projects for wider social good.

The 2018 Data Science Bowl competition is going on now! The world’s largest data science competition for social good, it brings together data scientists, technologists, domain experts, and organizations to take on the world’s challenges with data and technology. Mapping Campaign to Fight Malaria – Virtual, Ongoing
DigitalGlobe is part of a malaria mapping consortium along with Gates Foundation, Clinton Health Access Initiative, PATH, Humanitarian OpenStreetMap Team, MapBox and University of California-San Francisco. We’ve got an ongoing crowdsourcing campaign to map every household across more than 500,000 sq km in Zambia, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Laos, Cambodia, Guatemala and Honduras. The data will be used to inform a wide range of malaria planning and interventions on the ground in these countries, and the data will be publically available in OSM.
